Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience in setting up a support type group and how to go about it!

I've been diabetic almost 2/3 of my life, I assist a child with diabetes sometimes due to my job.
My friend was diagnosed gestational diabetic and I helped her along the way. She was so grateful for my support and when someone else was having a difficult time she passed my information on. She suggested I set up a group, I would like to predominantly help children and their parents/young adults to begin with.

There is a diabetic group in our area but I never see anything happening! I have spoken to a mother of a newly diagnosed child and she said she has been passed on contact information for other parents but doesn't feel able to contact them, she would rather it in a less formal environment to begin with before phoning someone out of the blue.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice, this is something I would really like to do.

Thanks in advance x

Print off some leaflets?

Hi @Sarahkylie88. Have you asked at your doctors surgery? I know @donnellydogs has spoken before about a diabetic buddy scheme...she may be able to point you in the right direction

Thank u, I will print off some leaflets, when I've got something to advertise. Just wondering how to go about it and some ideas of what to do, I mean young adults aren't going to want to sit around and drink tea? I will mention it to my diabetes centre, in actually going there again next week, don't know whether to mention to the diabetes charity, don't want them to think I'm stepping in their toes! Thank u any advice would be great x
