Hello everyone!!

I've been T1D for 10 years now (I just turned 21) and have just been diagnosed with CRVO potentially caused by years of diabulimia. As a result, my boyfriend wants to get reading about both the basics of diabetes to solidify his knowledge and any books that will help him offer support; be that regarding diet, exercise, how to spot problems, or emotional support. Unfortunately, most books in this area seem to be aimed at parents of young children. Does anybody know of any resources that can help us? Thanks in advance!!

Hi @NorthernPrincess :)

I'm not sure if there are any books aimed specifically at relatives of Type 1s, but Think Like A Pancreas is an excellent book. There is technical information in it, but it also starts off with the author describing his life as a Type 1. That might be useful for your boyfriend.

Your DSN might have some recommendations too. When I was first diagnosed, I went to the library and took out all the books I could find about diabetes. Some I only read little bits of, but others I identified with more. I think if your boyfriend can read as much as he can, then that can only be beneficial.

You're lucky that you have a supportive partner :)
