I felt it would be great to start a thread supporting loved ones with diabetes and how the cope.
Hi everyone am kinda a newbie on here but have been taking care of a family member with diabetes for a couple of years now,we know that supporting them can be both challenging and rewarding

1. How best do you help them ,or you just render emotional support?

2. What’s the hardest part about watching someone you love deal with diabetes?

3.How do you take care of your self and at the same time being there for them?

Somedays it feels easy we share meals, keep an eye on blood sugar or go for short walks,it can be overwhelming especially when I see them frustrated or tired of the constant monitoring.

If your caring for someone with diabetes or just getting to learn how to support them your voice matters on here

Hi @Haper and welcome to the forums. Is your diabetic family member a child or an adult? As a T1 since the age of 8, I can confidently sya that there is a big difference between supporting a child (help with injections, carb counting etc) and an adult (at this stage of my life mainly help with things like hypos).

My husband is great at supporting me with hypos.

Of course, if your family member is disabled in some way, the help needed goes up. (eg I dread what will happen to me if I ever get dementia).

And yes, diabetic carers are welcome on the forums.

I will be very interested to read the responses to your thread.

An adult Ma’m

Do they have a cgm (eg libre or dexcom)? That makes the monitoring a lot easier. You should be able to send the results to your phone if you need to access them.

Hi
My wife simple leaves me to it.
She will pass the jelly babies if i'm really really struggling but thats it and thats how i like it.
She does all the cooking as whilst i can cook i don't like cooking.

We have been together nearly 30 years and everything we do as a couple works for us both.

50 years a type 1 hba1c 39 or 5.7 and never been hospitalised but i make mistakes a plenty....

Good luck

Tony
