Type 1.5 Supporting My Partner

Hi all, my partner has recently been moved up the diabetic scale (for the worse!) and I’m trying my hardest to be supportive and help. I’m looking to find the best brand (or store) to get for sauces / condiments!

He loves nothing more than to dip his food in a ramekin of sauce but I’m worried about the sugar and carb content of the standard sauces available.

Thanks Iain

Hi Iain,
Some of this will depend on progression of his treatment. But the good thing about insulin use is more carb freedom if that is what he wants.

Hi Iain, I'm a sauce-dipper too! Often I use sour cream as a base and mix in all manner of flavours via herbs, spices, lemon juice, you name it! Balsamic vinegar is good too, on its own or mixed with something else.

Mayonnaise (depending on brand, so read the back of the package) has very few carbs and is easily turned into different sauces by adding things like garlic, grated peel of lemon, hot sauce, curry powder, yoghurt and about anything else you find in your kitchen.
