I have had a blood glucose test recently at my surgery which was 9.4 but have tested since at home on my father in laws reader and at pharmacy and it reads on average between 5.5 to 6.3 .Any answers would be helpfull as the day before I had the surgery test I had a really heavy night prior drinking alcohol not sure if this would make any difference

This is what probably gave you the higher reading. When you tested when you got home it had gone down. It takes roughly 2 hours for most people's blood glucose to have gone down after eating especially as you ate a banana which are notorious for raising blood glucose in most diabetics.

Thank you for your reply connive .one other question is would a heavy drinking alcohol session also may have caused this elevation ?

Not being a drinker I don't have much experience of alcohol. If it was the night before the test then I think it would have been OK.

A heavy drinking session would have lowered your blood sugar at first and then later raised it -what they call a liver dump -so this may well be the explanation.Plus he possibility of stress of course..

If you ate that stuff within two hours before the test at the surgery then it would be quite likely to be the cause of the high reading.
