I tend to sweat loads when nervous or stressed. Sweating like I'm hypo but not actually hypo. A couple of my D freinds suffer with this too. Anyone else? or any explanations?

Hi Skater,
Your reaction to stress is perfectly normal and nothing to do with diabetes. When you are nervous or stressed the heart pumps faster, making the heart pound and blood pressure rise; some people experience palpitations. Muscle tension increases, leading to headaches, dizziness, jaw ache and even insomnia. The mouth goes dry, digestion slows causing "butterflies" in the stomach. Breathing is faster and less efficient which can lead to over-breathing (hyperventilation) and breathlessness. Changes in the flow of blood to the skin cause sweating, blushing or clammy hands and feet.

Unfortunately when you look at many of these symptoms you can see how similar they are to those experienced in a hypo.

Just seems odd how other people I know experiance the same thing and are also diabetic. I also forgot to mention that when I exercise I sweat excessively enough to make other notice and comment. I have seen people stressed and get these symptoms under pressure but nowhere near like what happens to me. I have mentioned this to a couple of docs when in hospital and they both said it was odd.

Hi Skater,
Haven't managed to find much that will help you. Excessive sweating is medically called hyperhydrosis and all the articles on it that I can find say its only link with diabetes is as a result of a hypo. Try Googling "hyperhydrosis and diabetes" and you will see what I mean.
