Sweats/Transpiration

Hey everyone. I've been recently diagnosed with Diabetes type 1 (9 May) and I've been sweating a lot lately, mainly in my armpits/armholes. It's awful because I wear normal clothes like everyone else, it's not very hot here in Portugal and I end up with huge spots of sweat, that make me very unconfortable, specially in school because I'm just 16 years old. I read in a website that sweating is a sympton of diabetes type one and that it's caused because of the insulin. Is it true? If so, why? And is it possible for me to change this?
Thank you all.
Catarina, 16 years old, Portugal.

Hi,

A long time sice I was 16 but it could also be "hormonal"...? The normal growing up thing??

Unless it's due to very low sugars hypoglycaemia...? Do you test your sugar levels when you have these sweat symptoms..?

There maybe people closer to your age/gender to advise... In fact I know there is.. Try asking on the teen section on here too..!

Good luck.

I listen to Dr Bernstein's webcast every month and on nearly every show, someone asks a question about teenage girls and their formerly well controlled BG going haywire after puberty. Not sure if this is the same issue, but as Jaylee suggested, checking your BG levels is a good idea.

This month he said he'd spoken to Dr Lois Jovanovic who is a diabetologist who specialises in treating females and her answer is birth control pills, but of course it's something that would need to be discussed with your doctor.

There are other conditions that can cause excess sweating, so probably wise to mention it to your doctor.

I'm sorry for the late reply, but I've been having school exams. Thank you both very much... my sweating is becoming extreme lately so I'm definitely going to the doctor! Thank you once again.
