Hi all. I was diagnosed with Type 2 a week ago and still trying to get my head around it. It's like learning a new language!

Among other things, I've stopped taking sugar in coffee and, so far, this seems to have been the hardest thing to do. Is it OK to take artificial sweeteners such as Canderel?

I use sweeteners some people don't I also have the odd treat of diabetic chocolate again mixed reviews depending on choices....xylitol from holland and Barrett is really good to use instead of sugar....one member here gave me a great tip which is to mix it use half sweetener and half xylitol....it works for me :)

Only sweetener I can stand the taste of ( or more accurately, aftertaste of) is sucralose based ones which is handy cos I can swag a handful when I get my lunchtime salad from mucky d's

Hi I use Canderel or stevia, they are both fine for BS though its personal choice whether people like them or not...

Diagnosed with GD in 2010, Completely disappeared postpartum. Re-diagnosed December 2012 with type 1.5 diabetes, age 26, BMI 23 currently controlled by only Metformin, 500mg twice a day.

I have used sweetner for years - firstly as a result of my hubby being diagnosed some years ago and then because I was also diagnosed as type 2 about three years ago. I use sweetner in my tea, coffee and for things like my breakfast cereal. Brand named sweetners can be expensive (around £3 per jar) so I just look for the cheapest sweetner product that is labeled as containing aspertame. I usually pay about 0.89p per jar by doing this. Like anything else it is a matter of personal choice as to which sweetner you use and you might need to experiment with a few different ones to find one you like.
