Swimming/Bathing

Hi I've just joined the forum (posted on intro page).

My 11 month old son is on the Medtronic Paradigm Pump with the Silouette attachments.

I've been told he can swim/bath (once tubing detached), but I'm very nervous that the sticky bit will come off. The nurses tell me they are water proof.

At the moment I'm only bathing him just before a set change, but don't want him to grow up thinking bathtime = set change. Does anyone have any experience of this? The thing is, once he's had the bath, the old set comes off easily....

Hi Clorina

I bath several times before changing my sets and haven't had a problem... Their are a couple things you can do if you worried..

You can get some spray on prescribtion that will aid sticking, but I can't off hand think what it is called..

You can also if you feel that it might work lose, just stick down the patch with a bit of micro-pore tape unitl you ready to change..

One of the reasons why the patch comes off easier after a bath is that you slightly warmed the adhesive, and the patch is slightly damp.. Once it returns to normal temp and dries off it's not so easy..

I guess I am just paranoid! The micropore tape - we did try that, but it pulled the patch and made the "line" come out (his ketone levels went high bec he wasn't getting any insulin).

I will ask the diabetic nurse what the spray is, and if we can try some.
