Hi All.
My little boy Carter (he's 8) was diagnosed T1 25/3/16, he is just about ok now, he was very ill, in severe DKA, no bicarb even detected in his system, heart rate 180! BM's wouldn't read, PH was 6.2! He'd just had general anaesthetic due to surgery and it was completely missed as his symptoms were disguised by a misdiagnosis of GI issues.
Anyway, He spent 3 days fighting for his life, 10 days in HDU, over a month in renal failure etc etc. He is lucky to be alive but he is alive and he's doing very well now!! Hurray for him!!
As you can imagine now, I'm a super protective mom. (Bare with me, I'm getting there)..
Carter is wanting to go back to his swimming lessons but I'm frightened he will hypo in the pool and as he's still learning, I fear he could drown.
Can I ask how you manage? You do your BM's pre swimming and have a decent snack to allow for the exercise? Do you take your testing kit in a bag for by the poolside? Take some Lucozade incase? Are you even allowed to do that?
I'm going to take him to family a swim a couple of times I think and see how he goes before chucking him back into lessons, but any advice is very much welcomed.
Thanks All!!
