Hi

My dad has diabetes type 1 , the last couple of weeks his had a bad back and finally took himself to the doctor who said he has a swollen spleen and wants him to have a scan which has been booked for Monday , he also has some bruises on his stomach where he injects , has anyone had the same problem ........google is a great thing at times but now wished i had never googled swollen spleen.
Diabetes runs in my family my sister also has it and she has problems with her liver but never the spleen

Thanks for any help

Welcome @Mercedex and sorry to hear of your fathers health issues.

The bruising around injection sites is caused by the needle breaking the small capillary blood vessels that lay close to the skin, it happens to use all but if your father is experiencing excessive bruising then he needs to speak with his diabetes team who will look at his injection technique.

Wishing you and your father the very best of luck.

Swollen spleen has nothing to do with diabetes. Ultrasound is test of choice.
