Hey everyone,

I've just been to the doctor with a number of symptoms including:

- Dry mouth
- Muscle cramps
- Loss of balance
- Constant pain in my feet and hands
- Tiredness

Anyway does this sound like diabetes to you? He instantly thought it was and took some blood tests that I am waiting for. The reason I ask is it seems I have the symptoms but when I check my blood sugar its always between 4 and 6. Bit worried its something else to be honest.

To be honest lazzzy, you need to wait and see the results. Your one-off readings don't mean much. They just reflect your blood sugar then. That will vary on what you've eaten and when, exercise levels etc. The doctors test will reflect your overall average over the last few months. I'm wondering though why you've got a meter when you're not diagnosed yet? Did you have it for some other reason?

I've been checking blood sugar for a few months now as my symptoms pointed me in the direction of diabetes. Just doesn't seem to correlate with the results I'm getting. I bought the meter in boots on my own initiative.

I agree with Grazer, it's best you wait for your test results.

To be honest, I would hazard a guess that if you have been testing yourself quite regularly and getting those numbers, you don't have diabetes but only the test can say for sure.

Also, out of that list of symptoms, I only had excessive tiredness but that could easily have been because of the stress I was under at the time, I didn't have any other symptoms and my diabetes was diagnosed randomly.

Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Thanks for the info, I'll update when the blood tests come back.

I think doctors are a bit quick in assuming diabetes these days for just about everything...
