Hi I apologise if this is a crazy question. I am 41 yrs old. Weigh 18 and a half stone (260 pounds) I am 5foot 11 and 3 quarter inchs tall (sorry dont know centimeters)
I have lost some weight recently but I drink at least 6 litres of soft drinks each day i.e. coke, pepsi
This intake of fluid means I am up all night at the bathroom but each visit also includes me going to the fridge for more juice as I always seem to be thirsty.
I very rarely eat a full meal but eat snacks. I have pains in my lower legs even though I have not taken a knock. I wear glasses and was tested less than two years ago but sometimes struggle to read things off tv etc. I don't know if I just have an obsession with soft drinks and tiredness is just part of circle of thirst drink toilet. Should I seriously consider a diabetes test. Sorry guys if this is a no brainer to a lot of you but I am completely ignorant re diabetes. Thank You

Definatly get a test done, that's a lot of drinking. 2-3 liters is more normal. A test won't hurt (well, depends how you feel about blood tests!) in any case.

You can probably get a spot test done by your pharmacy, I'd suggest doing it after you've drunk some sweet stuff, kind of like a mini glucose tolerance test.

That will tell you if you need to see your doctor. I'd see him/her anyway.

I've always been of the opinion that some ingredient in these soft drinks actually makes you thirsty and therefore wanting more. Please get a test done to check.in the mean time I suggest that you substitute some of your soft drinks for just plain water and see if that has any effect.

I think it was Pohl and Kornbluth's The Space Merchants where the population was fed on a snack bar that made them thirsty for a particular kind of drink, which made them crave a specific brand of cigarette, which made them hungry for the snack bar again.

That was written fifty years ago . . .

Whilst diabetes is a strong possibility, if you are drinking coke and pepsi you can become addicted to them. I have seen people in hospital having to be weaned off their excessive intake of these types of drinks.

Hi

The amount of soft drinks you consume would encourage addiciton and I have come across this before. If they are full sugar drinks then you have double dunt addiction potentially to caffeine and sugar.
Caffeine is a diuretic (encourages you to pee) so between the volume of fluid plus the caffeine its perfectly understandable that you are urinating so much.

However, the eyesight and leg pain issues are classic type 2 diabetes signs but could be completely unrelated so I would recommend you get tested asap
