T1 and back pain

Hi All

I've not really posted on the forum before- but just wanted to ask people's thoughts on this. I have been T1 for 20 months. It has been, still is a struggle but I've recently completed the EDWARD course and so I've gained some confidence back and feel slowly I'm taking control of my condition - not vice versa! My question is this in the last year or so I've had some crippling bouts of back pain, which I've attributed to sciatica but I never had back pain like it before diagnosis. Is my D making it worse? I'm wary of blaming everything on my condition but just wondered.

Thanks

People with diabetes can develop diabetic neuropathy which effect the nerves in the body, the one you describe would be classed as Focal Neuropathy but this isn't to say that this is the cause. At some point in our life we will all get some back pain and the fact that you were only diagnosed 20 months ago may just be a coincidence, better that you get checked out and get a proper diagnosis of the cause of your pain.
