Do any of you good people have any experience of your teenager deny having t1 to their friend group?
My mrs told me my son informed her that one of the girls he is friends with messaged him and asked if he had diabetes to which he replied no as he absolutely hates having t1, he is 14 a very popular boy and I think he feels if people know about his condition then they don't like him.
Any and all advice as to how I negotiate this to help him will be greatly appreciated as always.

Hi,

I’ve been “that age” with T1… Though back in my day, the social networking was done in real life.
Sometimes people who don’t know you that well can take you back with a personal question.?
I once had a friend around that age ask me if he was gay, would I still be his friend..?

Maybe your son could have responded to the girl by asking if she has diabetes?
It could have been a “reach out..”

Hi thanks for reply, I think the girl in question my son has said in the past that she likes to stir and maybe she is trying this.

In that case.. I personally feel your son is within his rites to “put the wall up.”
I’ve had some outlandish questions & accusations on my orientation when I haven’t reciprocated certain female interest back in the day..
Keep em guessing. I’m confident your son is closer to the situation than I can surmise?

Even now. I can only talk diabetes with close friends.
Oddly, I’ve been in two bands with 2 other T1s. Neither liked “talking about it.” We just enjoyed the music & passed the Lucozade.
