Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on weight training.

I've been weight training for some time but I'm not bulking up at all....... simply due to my diet.

I eat healthy but to bulk up I need to start taking protein shakes & eating every 2/3 hours. I need some advice on how this will effect me.

This is gonna be my new eating plan:

7am Breakfast
10am chicken sandwich
12pm Chicken & rice
3pm Protein Shake
4pm work out
5pm Protein Shake
8pm Dinner

Now the questions I have are:

1. Is it safe to take protein shakes?
2. will I need insulin when taking the protein shakes?
3. would this plan decrease my levels

Bit of back ground on me:
T1 for 10 year, my last results were 5.3 - so well controlled, been training for over a year. I'm on novorapid & levermir!

Any advice would be great!

Hi,

I have put on just under a stone of muscle in the last 8 months. My last HbA1c was this week and was 5.8 (last one was 5.7) so my control is good and I do eat 5-6 meals a day during the week. Despite being told my protein intake was way too high my protein levels are bang on where they need to be.

Sometimes I inject for a protein shake (suggest you use whey protein as there are not many carbs at all). If I am 4.0 I dont inject as they only take me up by 1.5mmol....have to play it by ear.

I'm in work at the mom, but will reply later tonight if I get chance to tell you what I eat and when etc..

My son 15 yrs old has had trials for Harlequins RL and the only thing holding him back is his body size. Having spoken to several people the fix for this is enhanced diet and supplemented with some form of protein shake ( here lies the problem ) WHAT SHAKE....

His usual regime is 1 Hr free weights per day then 1 hr cycling.

can anyone recommend which form of shake he should be taking if any.

blood sugars usually around 7.

Many Thanks

Hi JC,

Thanks for the reply - this has put my mind at rest! I've order the shakes from myprotein & when i take it, i'll play by ear on whether i need insulin (check my levels) as I take it, that it doesn't raise levels by that much!?

That would be a great help if you could tell me your plan as it sounds as if it works - why re-invent the wheel!

Thanks!
