T1D and Metformin

When my doctors figured out I was T1 not T2, I expected to come off all the tablets as I started on Insulin. Instead, they kept me on Metformin. I have queried it and the Professor I saw said stay with it as it could help keep my weight down.

So who else is on Metformin with T1? Is it routine or unusual?

I am on metformin and insulin, only because I requested it.

Not really done much for the weight but I am eating a lot less than I used to.

My consultant said it was highly unusual for her to allow t1 to get metformin but I got because I had a bit of a heart to heart, told her all the benefits I had heard about and showed info from internet and this site.
