Just wanted to let you all know about my latest blood tests, since you were so kind and helpful when I was diagnosed in August.
So my first HbA1c in mid August was 89. I came straight on here and read up voraciously.
Since then I have been sticking to the low carb regime; I wouldn't say it was keto levels of lowness, because I do occasionally eat an apple, or chickpeas, or root vegetables. It certainly feels sustainable; I don't get cravings for carbs or feel the need to 'cheat'. I've promised myself a roast potato on Christmas Day, though!
Anyway, I had a phone call from the GP just now and it's down to 61 after three months of low carb.
My liver function has improved too.
He offered me Metformin, but said it was 'reasonable' to continue on the path I'm on, so long as the HbA1c comes down again in two more months.
So, it's going as it should! I'm relieved because I've been testing on a meter but found it hard to actually see progress; I got a bit dispirited about it all a few times, and frustrated I was still getting high numbers. Obviously over the 3 months there has been improvement, even if I couldn't see it.
I've stopped beating myself up about the diagnosis, and am quite evangelical about carblessness for T2-ers. I honestly wish all doctors would suggest it as a first strategy against diabetes and weight gain.
Thanks again for the support.
