T2 and insulin

I have seen some threads on here where there are T2s on insulin, at what point does at T2 change to T1, or don't they? I have assumed since being diagnosed as T2 that its meds diet and exercise, I was surprised to see T2s on insulin.

T2s require insulin when they are no longer able to produce enough of their own. This can be a result of prolonged periods of Hyperglycaemia, which is known to damage the beta cells. There are also theories about Beta Cell exhaustion caused by the constant requirement to pump out more insulin than the body would normally need.

In theory, if you can manage it and keep bg levels in a normalish range with diet and meds, then it won't progress to this stage.

T2s would only ever become T1s if they suffered an autoimmune attack on their beta cells.
