T2 - and now irregular heartbeat

I'm on metformin 500mg ( normal version) twice a day, since wednesday teatime, I've noticed an irregular heartbeat and thursday morning it was really bad, I have a blood pressure monitor at home and I did a reading, it was 199 over 116 with a heart reading of 100, I phoned my surgery and the nurse practitioner who I usually see, it was her day off and my Dr had just left for the day

Very scared, I kept taking reading during the day, all higher than what they should be ( I take ramipril 2.5mg) but none as high as mentioned above.

anyway friday the irregular heartbeat was still there so I phoned the surgery and asked the receptionist could I talk to the Dr, she said no, he doesn't take calls, so I made an appointment for 1pm.

Saw the Dr and he didn't seem all the concerned to honest and just changed the ramipril to 10mg and put me on slow release meftormin once a day, he just seemed more concerned that the nurse practioner had given me a BG monitor and said I didn't need to use it as I was on metformin but the other week I saw the dietitican and she agreed that using a monitor would be helpful as then I would know my BG levels before and after meals. ( my readings over a week, the highest has been 7.7 after eating a quiche, the lowest was 4.4, that was after vomiting after I had a bag of cheesy wotsits!)

sorry for rambling on but is the irregular heartbeat a normal side effect of metformin or should I be worried in case it is lactic acicdosis?

the irregular heartbeat is happening again now, not sure what to do, just carry on and ignore it, or go to A&E? I was surprised that the Dr didn't do an ECG as they have the facilites at the surgery. No point going to the other Dr at the surgery at the Dr I'm seeing is the diabetic specialist.

Josie, if I were you would get myself to A&E, at least there they would give you an ECG and check you over. Better safe than sorry, and you are clearly worried, you need to put your mind at rest.
Hope all is well, please come back and let us know how you get on.
All the best x

I agree, get yourself to A&E. BP is very high and heart rate is also elevated. The least the doc should have done was check you over.

If you're reading this, then you haven't gone to A&E! Not scare mongering but do it now, go. Your readings would make me feel very Ill. Arrhythmia could be atrial or ventricular and neither is acceptable. I get the odd spasm of arrhythmia once every 3 months say, it last for about 15 seconds but makes me sit down and I feel quite uncomfortable, please go and post something here when you've been, see what's said.

Good Luke the,

Q..
