t2 and podiastrist

@ally1

You are a very strong lady and you can get through this. Think what you have got through already. I agree entirely with both Pipp and AndBreathe and can't add anything more.

Take care, make that appointment, make notes of everything you want to know and take those with you. Make sure you are happy with the care they will give you and don't leave until you are satisfied.

Big hugs.x

@ally1,

@ally1, please put those thoughts out of your head.
Of course you are angry, and scared. Who wouldn't be. You have had a tough time.

Remember, though, how scared you have been in the past about having diabetes. You have faced that, and done so very well. I would go so far as to say you have been an inspiration to others in the way you have overcome difficulties.

Don't wait for the GP to get the letter from the podiatrist. Make an appointment and do as AndBreathe said earlier in this thread. Also, take heart from the post by ellat257. You can get through this, just don't let your good diabetes management slip. Keeping blood glucose levels low will help.

So many people here are behind you, ally. Stay strong.
Thank you. I know I can rely on people here to get me threw the tough times

Ally - I can only imagine how you are feeling right now, and I'm sure there will be more emotions to get in the way over the next couple of weeks.

In your shoes, I'd get myself an appointment in the diary with my GP (the one who appears to have started listening where you are concerned) so that you already have that when the letter arrives from the podiatrist. In that appointment I would be asking my Doc what plans there were for my care, bearing in mind this worrying development.

In the meantime, as well as making the appointment, you could start writing a list of the questions you would like to be answered, such as:

- What is his reaction to the podiatrist feedback
- What are his planned next steps
- Ask for a referral to a specialist diabetes unit or team, as it would appear your condition is proving very challenging for the surgery team
- Ask for reassurances that your psychiatrist will be involved in future planning

Ally, those are only thought starters but going to that appointment with a plan/list would be important to me, because it could help ensure I stayed on track with what I wanted to achieve and probably prevent me becoming too angry or emotional at a time when really what I needed would be answers.

Do you have anyone you can take to that appointment with you, for a bit of moral support and to help ensure you achieve your objectives?

Please do try to stay as calm as you can. Unfortunately, stress isn't too helpful in any of this, but yet again, you seem to be getting more than your fair share of that landing in your lap.

Ally; you are much, much stronger than you realise. Hang on in there.
Thank you for your kind words
I have alot of questions to ask and I need answers

Yes you can, but we also rely on you to be bold, and go to doctor, following advice you have been given.
You have done so before and made such wonderful progress, and we know you will have the determination and courage to manage this set back, too.

An update.
Up until 11.15am, I kept saying to myself, just call the surgery to make an appointment to see my gp. I kept saying no I won,t then saying just do it.
So I was brave and called the surgery. I explained I needed to ask my gp lots of questions so would need a longer appointment then the standard 10 minute ones they give. I just wasn,t in the mood to argue, so I was able to book one for 8.50am on Friday. So I pushed for an appointment for the 2nd DN nurse that listened to me and was the one that referred me to the podiatrist. I have managed to get to see her tomorrow at 11.45. Was surprised to get in so soon. I do know that it will be doubtful that the letter from the podiatrist would be there by tomorrow. But I can tell the DN what has been told by the podiatrist. So frantically writing down what I want to ask, also to find out now where I stand regarding where to go from now, what the surgery will/are going to do.
At least if I am to need help via the gp, he can sort out on Friday when I see him. If the DN can do anything or to get my gp to do anything then maybe I can get away with not seeing him Friday.
So much is going round my head which also I feel is affecting me mentally and I Don, t want to aggregate my bipolar. If that happens then I won,t be able to handle that at the same time.
Ironically, yesterday, I received an appointed to see the pdoc on the 19th May which is a week Friday. Normally I see him every 3 months but it was only 2 months when I last saw him.
So I can discuss with him about the way I feel about the recent news about my diabetes. Pdoc has a keen interest with diabetes.
Thank you all for pushing me gently to get help and am hoping tomorrow that I will get answers on what will happen now or what I can expect

I will admit, since the news on Friday re my feet, I have eaten all the wrong foods, over eating and am feeling sod it all.
So I do need help to get things back on track and I need help help and am hoping the DN will help and give me the support that I need

Oh well done @ally1 Proud of you for doing that. You now need to be assertive and not intimidated.
Between the nurse, the GP and the Pdoc hopefully you will get sorted and on a proper care pathway.
Please let us know how you go on, and take care of yourself - and that includes doing your very best not to go down that slippery path with comfort eating. :) xx

Comfort eating, really should have another name, especially if it makes you feel guilty. You have admitted it now, so forgive yourself and put the wrong food mood behind you.
Well done for being firm and getting the appointments.

I spoke to two friends, they both said that I am making a fuss about seeing the DN nurse tomorrow and that I should cancel tomorrow and cancel the gp on Friday. They both said that I should wait until my gp gets the letter from the podiatrist. Both said that when the gp gets the letter and if he then wants to see me, then he would contact me.
This has now unsettled me. One even said that I have to accept the damage done to my feet
Please just re assure me that I am right and not being stupid seeing the DN nurse. Being honest, I am scared that I will eventually have my feet/legs amputated, have heart attack/stroke/go blind/ have kidney problems

Ally - I think your plan is sound. You need to get a few things off your chest and you need to engage with your medical team, without delays.

Going this week will show them how concerned you are about it all, and how much you really want to be actively involved in your healthcare.

Whatever you do, if you have a few tears tomorrow and, or Friday, don't worry about it for an instant. It might do them good to see how unsettled and upset this whole process had made you. Sometimes rocking the boat a little and unsettling the other person is a positive process.

So, I'd say, go tomorrow and take your notes with you and don't leave until you've covered every point on your list. You deserve good support. You deserve first rate care, and you deserve to be in as good a place as you possibly can be.

When you come out of your appointment, try to take a few minutes, maybe back in the waiting room, just to make a few notes about what has happened, and scribble down any new things you want to discuss with the Doc on Friday.

I can't say how well I think you've done in handling all of this, Ally. Sometimes being too nice doesn't do us any favours, and I think sometimes you probably are too nice and can be taken advantage of.

A big well done, and I'll be crossing my fingers for you tomorrow and Friday. You deserve all the positive vibes we can send.

@ally1 Your friends are wrong. You need to see these people as soon as possible, to allay your fears and put you on the road to better care. Please don't let them unsettle you. Your decision to make these appointments was spot on, and the best thing you could have done. It is your health at stake, not your friends, and you have put yourself in control. I applaud you, and wish you the best of luck with it all.

@ally1 you know your friends are wrong. Afterall where were they when you needed diabetic support?
They are friends for other things but not wise in diabetic matters.
Stick to the advice here.
You are in safe hands here.
We all just want what's best for YOU and your diabetes.

I think a referral to a diabetic specialist will help you enormously.
You fight and fight these naughty bgs like a true trooper. They will see that and help you manage your diabetes with less fight.
Your efforts have been putting many to shame, I'm sure.
You are a loyal diabetic soldier who has fought more than most lately. You could be getting 'burn out'. Which is when you have no fight left in you.
Please please please don't let all your hard work go in vain. Get back on the low carb horse. The cavalry are on their way!!! :) :) :)

I do get a lot f support here and I value members help, support and guideace.

Have seen the nice DN, I explained what the podiatrist said because his report has not yet got to the surgery but it was only last Friday late afternoon when I saw the podiatrist.
The DN listened to what I had to say and calmed me by explaining things. While I was in the room with the DN, she spoke to another gp in the practice who has a keen interest in diabetes, he said if I was his patient, then he would prescribe me something. I can,t remember what it was. My gp is off today, DN said to still see my gp on Friday with the appointment that I already have.
Though the DN did say that my gp might not prescribe me that the other gp said about because all gp,s are different and my gp doesn,t prescribe meds willy nilly.
The DN did say at this stage, that I won't be referred to the diabetic clinic at the hospital.
I am now feeling a bit calmer just by chatting about my fears.
So a very big thank you all for advising and helping me as what to do xx
