T2 diabetic taking Sertraline.

Hi,
I started taking Sertaline for depression about a 6 weeks ago.
Since then my blood sugar readings have been getting lower and lower.
I've cut down my insulin from 60 to 56 units a night, about to go to 54.
I've had more hypos since starting on the Sertraline than I've ever had before.
Having said that I test 4 times a day, before breakfast, lunch and dinner and last thing at night, and the stats I keep show my 10 day average is 6.4 and the 30 day average is 7.0.
Wednesday night I forgot to take my usual tablets and had a reading of 7.4 at bedtime.

I'm on 2 metformin twice a day, 2 glipizide twice a day, 1 doxazosin plus simvistatin and ramipril
Can't remember the sizes of the pills but can find out.

Has anyone else had a similar effect when taking Sertralne?
The Sertraline does say that diabetics need to monitor their blood sugar level but usually that means they will go up.

Any advice or information welcome

I found this study on non diabetics taking Setraline.

There were no significant differences in physical examination (blood pressure, BMI, body weight, height, waist circumference) and laboratory findings (glucose, HDL-C, LDL-C, HOMA-IR and HbA1C levels) at the 12(th) week after of treatment with sertraline compared to pretreatment values. However, insulin levels at the 4(th), 8(th) and 12(th) weeks significantly increased compared with pretreatment values. Likewise, triglyceride levels at the 8(th) and 12(th) weeks significantly increased compared with pretreatment values.

CONCLUSIONS:
Sertraline-treated patients have to be followed up for blood insulin and triglyceride levels. In addition, their treatment plan needs to be adjusted as necessary to prevent possible metabolic changes.

It could be that the depression has lifted, you are eating better than you did when you were depressed and you need a medication review as you are on other medications that lower blood glucose.

Best to talk it over with your G.P. as Setraline cannot just be stopped and needs to be tapered off. You could ask him to do this and put you on another anti-depressant that is not contra indicated for diabetics. You also need him to order a test for a full lipid profile in case the Setraline has increased your triglycerides.

I've got my 6 monthly diabetic clinic in four weeks time so I'll bring it up then.
At the moment I'm happy with the Sertraline, feeling a lot better and blood sugars going down.
I'm not eating better, my diet stays fairly static.

I'll keep monitoring my blood sugars and see how it goes.

Hell I am new and been type 2 for 2 weeks I'm not having a good time has I am disabled as well on loads of meds, I have constant migraines on the right side of my head. Also got Meniers disease, degenerative cervical spine encroachment 1 to 6 vertebrae. Also have osteoarthritis in both shoulders , also on sertriline anti depressants been on them for about 8 months. I have been ok but everything is early yet and it makes more depressed. I sound like an hypochondriac but I'm not its just I don't know what else God can throw at me besides me moving in with him. Ah ah ah
