I’ve been T2 for around 7 years now. I’m on oral meds and weekly exenatide. Long story short, I started developing neuropathy symptoms in my feet although it’s not ‘officially’ diagnosed yet (although I have been prescribed Amitryptiline for it). Over the past 4 years I’ve noticed my mobility has been getting gradually worse. When walking any distance my legs and lower back seem to seize up and it’s increasingly painful and stiff in my legs to walk. We went on holiday last month and I ended up using a wheelchair as it was impossible to get about otherwise.
My GP feels it’s the diabetes causing these problems and I agree up to a point. My symptoms however also seem to ‘fit’ with other things such as fibromyalgia and 2 different GPs suggested intermittent caludication or polymyalgia rheumatica. I’m pretty sure neither of them are the issue.
It seems to me that blaming the diabetes is too easy (and they’re not too bothered about looking into any other possibilities) but I’m just wondering if anyone else has had issues with stiffness and pain that have seriously impaired their mobility?
