but my DP still kicks in every morning FBG has never been below 6.9mmol

my fbg is always still around 8. It's what my body does. This is not unusual. Fbg isn't a good indication of control.

Point taken, HbA1c & TIR will always trump FBG.

On another note before 1997 FBG was the primary diagnostic tool used, sometimes alongside the OGTT.
I believe 7.8(140) was the cutoff with no such thing as pre-diabetes.
I wonder how many people got a diagnosis cause of DP yet could of had non-diabetic A1cs.

No longer being prescribed metformin.
The target is being set at a level that still has elevated mortality and nerve damage...

There would be my definitions.
Remission = Off All Meds + FBG < 5.6 + A1c < 5.7%
Reversal = Off All Meds + FBG < 5.6 + A1c < 5.7% + OGTT < 7.8 @ 2 Hours

Agree with this, except that FBG might have a bit wider range of natural variation.
<6.5% would be better referred to as "managed" than remission.

Edit: Although hopefully this starts to move clinical care from "eat potato and metformin" to "seek to achieve remission in the next 6 months" as the default.
