Type 2 T2 with very low ldl and tl cholesterol -

brief history - T2 for many years - fairly well controlled with metformin only and proper eating. a year ago had a "stent event" and on blood thinners. Doc wanted to put me on 80mg Lipator (statins), without even checking my cholesterol levels. (LDL was 1.88 mmol/L) . I refused Lipator. Three months ago my DR convinced me to take 10mg Lipator daily. Now my Cholesterol readings are as follows - HDL 1.45 LDL 0.76 TG 0.71 tl Chol 2.53. So I discontinued the Lipator right away against my Dr's advice.
So that's the short version.
Now my question is - what is the relationship between my very low cholesterol levels and my T2 diabetes? Is there an effect on diabetes as a result of extremely low cholesterol? How low is too low?
 
Your very low LDL is probably due to the fact you were on Lipitor. Your HDL is decent and trigs below 1 is good so I can't see what your Dr is complaining about, cholesterolwise.
I don't think your diabetes has anything to do with your cholesterol levels.
 
thank you for the response Totto. I guess i was wondering if my very low cholesterol would have any negative impact on my HAIC readings? Should I be happy with 0.76 LDL ?
 
Although a very low cholesterol level should have no impact on your diabetic status it is somewhat concerning as cholesterol is part of the natural working of the body and I really don't understand why it is considered a good thing to keep it artificially low.
Essential parts such as the brain and nerves are made from lipids, so interfering with the availability - cholesterol is the transport system for fats, is - to my way of thinking, just asking for trouble. Fats are involved in making digestive fluids and hormones too so I think you are wise to have discontinued the tablets.

That's an interesting viewpoint. Here we have living proof, of a fully functioning, coherent, alive poster with good (but low to you) cholesterol. What would you have expected to have failed in a person with the levels stated? Brain? Netves? Digestion?

There is no way to know.
Hopefully Keith 8 felt fine with his natural levels of cholesterol and was OK with his artificially lowered levels and also with whatever levels he has now he decided to stop taking the tablets - I just don't understand the reasoning behind prescribing statins in such circumstances

My money's on brain. Doesn't have to HAVE FAILED. Just raise risk

I'm no expert, so don't ask me any more questions. I simply googled 'damage from low cholesterol'. Others can read the search results ad libitum. Google and cholesterol are your friends. High triglycerides are your enemy.

I wouldn't dream to understand it either, many people spent nearly a decade in medical school to do that.
Same way I wouldn't trust a doctor to pipe up a boiler. I can do many calculations on pipe runs, number of bends, pressure, length of run, and even if it's a 90 bend or a shallow radius curve.
Horses for courses.
But I would review the data, and if someone is telling me something I want to hear, that's when I worry.

Cause and effect.
As it says in the study, the reality is suicidal, or violent behaviour often is associated with excessive alcohol, and lack of food.
So the behaviour leads to low cholesterol.

That's one massive assumption. How many tests did you do to establish this ? Body dysfunctions don't all symptomise overnight. Some take years. Some are only discovered on autopsy.

Pencil me in too, although my figures are slightly higher, so give me a few more weeks maybe?
