I very recently stopped taking the anti-coagulant Apixaban because it appeared to be raising my fasting bg, and is said by Drugs.com to incur the following side effects:
"Metabolic Common (1% to 10%): Gout, diabetes mellitus, blood glucose increased, hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, decreased appetite[Ref]"
I have just started Dabigatran in the hopes that it will not affect my bg. It is not very convenient to take it with a full meal, as I often don't have breakfast til lunch-time, but I am wary of taking it on an empty stomach. Some posts I have read elsewhere suggest that just a small snack will do to avoid gastric problems. Any advice would be welcome. I must say, the patient leaflet on possible (and common) side-effects of Dabigatran is intimidating. (By the time I have suffered a brain haemorrhage maybe I won't care about my bg!)
