Would there be much of an issue of taking my Lantus at 5pm instead of at 8pm?

I only take 2u and I'm out for a few drinks and I want to take the bare minimum equipment. I also want to avoid injecting while im out as It's a beer and football night and where we go won't be the cleanest of places.

@Jc3131 . Shouldn't be a problem. Remember though that lantus struggles to cover a 24 hr period at best, if you revert back to 8 pm tomorrow you could find yourself going a bit high for a few hours.
Enjoy the night.:)

Yeah, I agree with therower and antje.

There's a fair bit of leeway with basal, because it's slow acting, so you'll not get into any sort of mess like you would with fast acting where the timing is more important.

I vaguely recall that the Lantus makers say timing should be plus or minus 1 to 2 hours around the same time, but an occasional 3 hour difference isn't going to be a big deal.

It'll overlap for a short spell with the previous night's dose, but, again, it's slow acting, so not a big deal. Not even remotely comparable to stacked overlapping fast acting.

I do my lantus at 10pm, but if it's the weekend, and, as is often the case, I find myself in a pub, and end up staying out to midnight or 1am (we have civilised closing times here in Edinburgh, none of that 11pm nonsense which I've heard occurs elsewhere!) there's no appreciable difference through taking it 3 hours late either, although the missing bit will probably have been covered anyway by the occasional bolus for a few beers.

I am assuming the same principle applies to a single dose of Levimier
It does, but you have to hurry if you want to make it to the pub before closing time. I thought most people on levemir split their injections though, because it works shorter than 24 hours. Any long acting gives you some room with timing.

Well I've just got home. 7 ish pints of lager ( mostly lower carb) a Sunderland win, which is rare, esp 4 away goals. I had diet coke pretending it was double vodka and coke to my mates and my bloods are 3.6. Time for a feast i think. Within reason.
