It can't just be me, I hope! I'm cooking a meal, it's an operation of love and care involving timing, organising, watching, serving. This is also the time when I must test, think, record, inject, chuck stuff away, and tidy up. This kind of Multitasking is a bit of a pain and can lead to a right mess.

.... and I can't inject before all the cooking starts unless I'm willing to risk a hypo.

Hello, this is why learning about your insulin profile will be helpful. It does depend on each person in terms of when insulin peaks. However my dsn said if you don’t know when food is ready, don’t inject. Wait until food is ready. Sometimes having a libre is useful, scan and off you go. No mess involved. :)

Not a problem I have with glorious Novosluggish! I’m pretty much the opposite, trying to work out when my meals will be ready so I can inject in plenty of time, no more spontaneous meals for me! It Sometimes kicks in after half an hour, sometimes kicks in after an hour...

When my wife cooks. "How long have I got..?" So I can pre bolus.
The answer, "Fred knows!" (Though it isn't his name.)

When I cook. I let the place burn whilst I weigh it up with the dose & what not...

I agree with @MeiChanski , a Libre is handy. But a bolus for the more carby of Italian dishes can go in any direction. Like fiddling while Rome goes up in smoke..lol, for a low carber if do have a talent for a spag boll. :banghead:

Yes, haha, risk wrecking the meal or risk wrecking my control for the day, can be a difficult choice! Yes, I agree with @MeiChanski that a Libre scan is very handy, though I'm encouraged by DSNs to do the blood test version of it before meals. I was just wondering if other forum-users cope better than I do at keeping all the plates in the air.:banghead:

Like @helensaramay impress prepare my needle. Write down what I am cooking and work out what I wasn’t to take when in the middle of cooking. It will depend on what I am cooking but I often split my doses into 2 sometimes 3 for fat heavy meals. Rarely take the full dose before I eat but ensure I have insulin ready to spring into action when I start eating. The Libre has definitely enabled me todo this. I don’t bother with blood tests pre eating as it is pretty accurate for me.

@helensaramay and @becca59, thank you both for good, positive advice about some things I could do to cope better during 'rush hour'. I'm going to start today to be more canny and believe in better!

I tend to bolus for the meal at my usual estimated time before I think it will be ready. No dramas though if isn't as I am at home and can always fill the time gap with something from the naughty cupboard. Oh the naughty cupboard is filled with chocolate. If need be I add a top of rapid after the meal.
