Technically not diagnosed yet but.. sorry long post.

So hence when I did my own test I bought original formula lucosade.

Did you look at the ingredients/nutrition label for the amount of glucose in 100ml and then calculate how many ml you needed to drink? Or did you just drink some? If the latter, the test was a bit of a waste of time. Surgeries did use Lucozade at one time, before the sugar was reduced, but measured it very carefully. You need 75grams of glucose exactly, and nothing else. Anyway, it doesn't matter. You should just go to the GP and ask for an HbA1c. There is no point delaying it or trying to self diagnose.

You have to use your meter to guide you. There are quite a few of us on the forum that can eat small portions of spuds without too much of a reaction. I'm one of them. My meter has told me I can eat 2 small new potatoes, or 2 small roast potatoes, or 6 or 7 homemade chips. It is 4 years since I last tried mash, jackets and stewed. At that time my meter said no. I haven't really missed them and have not eaten them since. You just have to be very careful with gravy - that can raise levels more than the spuds. Butter is a better choice than gravy.
Oh its the gravy!!! There I was thinking I was being very good trying so hard to lose weight and eating boiled broccolli, cabbage, carrots, swede, green beans, cabbage, cauliflower all in small portions in a bowel, every meal day in day out for months on end with gravy and wondering why I was putting on weight and even more hungry - after all the diets say eat as much veg as you like. This was before I learned about the root veg being carby. Hence the veg went out the window over 18 months ago and I have lost 2.5stone.

I struggle with gravy! I just have a squirt now, and use butter instead.

Nothing anyone advices someone with Type2 to do on this website will be harmful to someone without type2, in fact the advice is very likely to reduce the risk of someone getting type2.

Hence I am happy to assume @kazd63 has type2 as that is the safe option.

So went to the Doctors this morning and I am off tomorrow to the hospital for the A1C test. Fasting, I think she said 12 hours but assume I can sip water in the morning.
