We know how many of you on this forum do LCHF and do very well on it but we also know many HCP are against it so if yours is one who does not approve do you actually tell the truth about your diet when you see your GP or DN or do you just tell them what they want to hear.
As a prediabetic my diet is low fat and I don't eat much in the way of rice pasta and bread and no high sugar foods been doing this for years and I don't need to loose weight I know my GP would never approve of a high fat diet for anyone not just diabetics If I do become diabetic eventually and start to do LCHF would I feel I could tell the doctor or DN that I was

I must admit I tell my DN what she wants to hear - not exactley LCHF but def Lower Carb, and with some of the diet sugeestions she made to me in the past, I'm going my own sweet way and doing what works for me.

Thats how I feel about it I would not want to get into an argument with them and I would do what I thought best for me

I think if you tell your GP or DN that you are eating "high fat " they think in terms of eating nothing but lard and cream whereas most of use eat fat as part of our healthy DB friendly diet not eating low fat but good fats

I tend to tell them as little as possible, then I get as little criticism as possible!

I would nod and agree in (hopefully) all the right places. But knowing me the truth comes bubbling out sooner rather than later. Either way, I would do what works for me.

Yes I tell the truth. My HCPs know what I'm doing and don't approve but it's My body, My life, My diabetes and MY choice how I manage and control it. I don't argue with them, I offer info as to why I'm living a LCHF lifestyle, listen to their opinion and we part amicably.
Why is it necessary to have your Health Care Teams approval? It's nice but not a prerequisite for good management. After all we are not children seeking to please our parents in the hope of praise for being "good".... are we? ;)

I think that if you are successful with LCHF and you don't tell your HCPs then they are never going to learn.

Saying that, I told my dietician that I would start eating porridge - I said it just to shut her up.

I wouldn't lie. That's not a good basis for any working relationship. But, nor would I give my actions an inflammatory label.

I maintain a food diary, and records of my home testing (which I was told was not required), so I can safely say I have reduced my carb intake, in response to my testing evidence. I haven't really gone high fat as I don't really like too much fat on a regular basis. I have probably eaten more red meat than I planned, but sometimes one just gets a bit fed up with chicken..

My review is this afternoon, so I'll know exactly what I did then. :)

I have maintained a food diary in the past and shown it to doctors and nurses, but they don't believe that everything I eat is written in the diary! It is! Down to the last crumb! Those television programmes about secret eaters have given everyone with a BMI of over 25 a bad name.

Good luck with this afternoon. Let us know how you get on

its my rule in life to only lie for 2 reasons, first reason is to not hurt someones feelings and second reason is if the police ask me a question (its a default thing, if a copper asks me the time, i will lie, i can't help it lol), i have nothing to hide from the doctor, if they don't like my method they can kma so i tell the truth, they either ignore me completely because after all who the hell do i think i am speaking anyway, or look at me like I'm crazy, either way they always seem as glad to see the back of me as i am them :) I'm currently going through a you leave me alone ill leave you alone phase

I keep a food diary, I've discussed my diet with my nurses, doctor, and dietician. Anything they don't like, we discuss, anything I don't like, we discuss. Most of the time we find a useful agreement.
If a diet means they think I should have increased blood tests, or specific tests, I agree with them.
If I want to alter my diet, and test more, they give me test strips.

I can't see any point in not being truthful, how can they correctly prescribe and treat me, if they don't actually know what I'm doing.

You pays your money, you takes your choice...
QED!

this make me curious, if i may ask.... if a doctor tells us we should be eating plenty of carbs with each meal for example, should i listen as they are the doctors and do exactly as they have told me? should i try to convince them they are wrong? or just ignore their advice? now assuming i ignore their advice because i believe its bad advice, should i then doubt everything that is said and go and research it more or listen and hope they are right about other things? or should i look for another doctor who i believe is right assuming i can find one? so at what point do we listen to our HCPs? I'm not clever enough to be a doctor or understand the research papers that are published so how can i ignore their advice in good conscience? but here i am ignoring it, this has made me not want to go and see them, i don't really feel bad for not going because whats the point if you don't trust them? if this is irresponsible what would be more responsible?

I don't lie except by omission, just smile, nod and agree, I've never actually been asked about carb intake only sugar so I'm telling the truth when asked if I've reduced my intake .......

Find me who treats you, as a patient, not as a list of symptoms.

Having said that, you can't ignore your symptoms either.
Mine were overweight, tiredness, joint ache.
In addressing those, high bg was also discovered.
But liver, kidneys, thyroid, blood pressure, heart, sleep apnea, mri brain scan, were all covered.
Then we came up with a solution for the weight, the tiredness, the pains, and the bs, while not affecting anything else, and ongoing checks to monitor that.

So, at the end of the day, I reckon they can't ignore you, but you can't ignore them.
Find a doctor you get on with.

Is this your way of saying you haven't been to ask about your dodgy toe yet?

Toe Watch. Week 2.
In today's episode Andy waits for his toe to get better by itself.

My doctor has never shown enough interest in me to ask a question interesting enough to warrant a lie. But I would argue because I'm good at arguing.
