Tender scalp/headaches

Hi
This is my first posting as a newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic. I'm waiting to attend my DESMOND clinic so, at the moment, everything is all new and a bit frightening. I'm a 53 year old and slightly overweight bloke trying to make sense of how I'm currently feeling and the first big worry I have is a constant tender scalp and headache. I have already been taking Metformin 500mg x twice a day for about a month. I noticed the symptoms began just after I started taking the Metformin so I assumed it could be due to the new medication and it was mentioned in the side effects so I stopped it for a week but still got the headaches and tender scalp and so I've now recommenced the Met.

I've read that you can get occipital neuropathy with Type 2 diabetes and wondered if anybody else has suffered the same symptoms. Basically - What did you do? Did it eventually stop? etc. Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete, I know your post was 11 years ago, but I found it because I am having the same symptoms. I just started Metformin a few weeks ago and I have developed a painful scalp and have consistent headaches ever since. The scalp is so bad it hurts to even touch it, and I wear a hat all day (bald guy problems) and it's super uncomfortable now. I am 49 and just trying to control my blood sugar as diabetes runs in my family and my bs levels have been hovering at 200-220 for a little while now. I'm fit and eat healthy, it just is what it is, **** DNA.

I was wondering if you figured out your issue or if you came off the Metformin. I am afraid to stop it without the guidance of my pharmacist, so I am currently waiting for her to call me back.

Thanks,
Brett

Hi @Brett S Welcome to the forum. Pete hasn't posted since 2013 so is unlikely to see your post, but hopefully some other people on Metformin will be along soon.
