Hi all, a friend of mine has given me a pot of test strips that are 12 months out of date, telling me they are fine to use, what's your advice. ? Thanks

Don't know, but with your meter kit you usually get a small pot of fluid to test if strips are o.k and "within range" if you've got that you can see if they're ok

Hi
I think you would be better off going to your GP to get a fresh pot as these out of date strips can give you false readings.

Tracey, bigo is a Type 2. Getting test strips from a GP is a totally different ball game, he's probably been told not to test.

Bigo, I'd give them a go if you can't afford to buy them, they'd be better than no strips at all.

If you can get your hands on a few in date ones why not compere the readings....may give you an idea if they are fairly accurate.
No tester is 100% so any clue as to what is happening is better than none at all.

Angie

If they are in an unopened orginal container I would bet money that they will be OK.

The expiry date takes into account that they must be accurate right up to the expiry date so they don't just suddenly stop working. They will also be sold all over the world so in hot tropical countries they must still be accurate, in cooler climates they probably last a lot longer.

I would use them and check against a known meter/strip.

I sometimes buy out of date stuff like tinned food, and preserved things. I ain't died yet!

Hi,

Don't use them if you can't verify they are going to give you accurate readings. use some sample fluid to make sure it's giving you an accurate reading.

I understand strips are expensive but it's no good using duff strips, even if they are free.
