Type 2 Diabetes
Hi, Ive been type 2 now for around 4 year and although my blood sugar levels are constantly low i do take Metphormin, Lisinopril and statins. I'm slightly over weight but not massively, but i struggle to excersice due to previous shoulder and back injuries so i try to control what i eat. This has proved difficult as i have a very 'sweet tooth'. I currently see my diabetic nurse every 6 months and have my bloods taken but my question is, would there be any additional benifit for me in investing in a Glucose test kit so i can check more frequently? I was also looking at the testers that combine glucose and colesterol as my partner has just been told she has raised colesterol levels but her diet is very good.
Advise would be a great help people. Many thanks.

BG testers can be a valuable tool in finding out which foods raise your levels and by how much. However, if you fail to act on the results, it's just an expensive toy. You have answered your own question in that you have a "sweet tooth". All testing will do is confirm this. Sugars are not the main culprit though, it's carbs, bread, rice etc.
If you adapt your diet through testing and can afford the strips then go for it. If you feel changing your diet will be tough, it could be a big waste of money.
As for exercise, you don't need to do that much to have a positive effect. Just walking will help. Good luck.

hi, i tottally agree with mo, i just wondered as you are taking met your prescriptions will be free therefore if your nurse will give you a machine she may also give you a scrip for the strips, mine does, i know not all do but if you dont ask....

Good Luck
