So far I have been testing before and 2 hours after each meal.

As my blood glucose counts have now stabilised, with before meal levles being 5 to 5.4 mmol and 2h after about 5.5 - 6, I am now considering testing 1 hour after meals to try to gain some more insight.

Is there any official guideline on what the target blood glucose should be one hour after a meal?

If there is no official guidiline, what target do people on the site who test at such intervals use.

Thank you for your help.

Regards

Pavlos

I think most of us test at one hour to find hidden spikes, Pavlos. I know that I tested to find a spike when I ate anything oat based and found it went up quite significantly in the hour but dropped down to a more normal level by two hours.
I would not have not known about these spikes without testing at one hour. NICE guidelines state no more than 8.5 after a meal so keeping it down lower than that is a good idea even at one hour.

Hi Pavlos,

These days, I test one hour after I have finished eating to try to find the peak.

I look to be less than 8 at that stage and I manage to achieve that target on almost all occasions except sometimes when carrying out an experiment.

Best wishes - John
