Many people need much more insulin first thing in the morning. I have a zero carb breakfast, black coffee but have 3 units of novo rapid. If I' above 6 on waking I have 3 units + 1 extra.
My lunch time ratio is 1 unit per 10 carbs, and so is my evening meal.
You can test your background insulin by skipping lunch. Test at lunch time, eat nothing and test again before your evening meal. If your bg has increased since lunch time you probably need to increase the background in the morning. If it's gone down, reduce the background in the morning. Good luck
