Hi,
I have been competing and training for BMX racing for the last 10 years,
Recently I have been testing my blood sugars a lot during a race day,,, sometimes up to 10times a day.
My Doctors are questioning all the test cassettes Im getting each month on my prescription.
I have good control and Im the fittest I have ever been in my life and have been very successful in my Cycling.
It must be cheaper for them to give the strips? other than have bad control and spend time at appointments or time in hospital.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes others do get queried over testing and a lot have quite a battle to obtain their strips.. I

I've had problems in the past, but my consultant soon sent a letter to my GP on my behave, and I do regularly have to battle the 'Prescription Manager' who seems to think that 50 strips a month is suitable and adjusts my prescription accordantly...

So it's a case of fighting your corner, taking a print out of the information surrounding the tests you are doing during your racing/training, and pointing out the dangers involved on the track if your ability to concentrate is effect either by a low or high blood glucose level..

Not sure telling them, BMX racing is a blood bath at the best of times, with some very seriously high end injuries involved, but just that on lapse of concentration can lead to a pretty nasty injury...

My friend was a pro stunt rider back in the 90's early 2000's, and the list of injuries he sustained, he's going to feel them again when he's get old and arthritic...

I will contact my consultant if they question how many strips or tests Im doing,
They did say last time I went to carry on what Im doing the way Im testing,I do need a good level to get the energy i need to race.

I just got a bit annoyed when the receptionist asked me how many times I test and that I test to much,,,she said her Grandaughter does not test that much
I think I have it sorted now my GP seems cool with it..

Yeah the BMX racing can get messy and Ive had my fair share of injurys which Im sure Im going to pay for one day :D
Cheers
