It's good you have a meter and it will be your new best friend, even though 7.8 and 8 is counted as the same on a home meter by me, because of the error rates of meters and strips. You can get higher readings of a morning because of a liver dump of glucose, also called dawn phenomenon.
this may help with testing

thank you for the prompt reply
is there any where I can go to find out more about liver dump of glucose
dawn phenomenon

When you test your fasting level in a morning you need to do it as soon as you get up. If you get up, potter about, have a shower, get dressed etc. this is likely to cause your levels to rise because your liver thinks you need some glucose to get up and running for the day, so it dumps some in your system. The same thing will happen during the day if you skip a meal or leave too long between meals. It is a perfectly natural phenomenon that happens to everyone, not just diabetics.
