Hi,
can anyone tell me why the fingers are the chosen site for drawing blood? surely blood from anywhere is the same. i know that the forearm is another site one can use, however d'nurse stated results are not so accurate there but she couldnt explain why. i am a bit puzzled by this as i wasn't aware that there were differing blood samples for different areas. i have considered absorption rates for different areas, however this dosn't figure as surely all skin parts need the same oxygen and sugars etc :?:

I think that the blood flow is supposed to be slower away from the fingers, so the results lag behind.
I don't think there's a difference in accuracy, but fingers ae meant to be better if the BG is changing fast.

Hello

I have always used my fingertips to draw blood from. Its the most accurate. If you get your blood sample from the arm you will find that the bg reading will much higher than from the finger. You could be 8 from the arm but from the finger you could be 5.

I'll squander a couple of strips to test that. I'm usually under 6 on the arm, but no signs of hypo :)

interesting link phoenix,
thank you
anyone know why this is the case?
20-30 mins difference is a lot, especially when you consider its but a few inches away. how on earth can it take that amount of time to circulate away from the forearm? it is absolutely amazing i think.
