Testing without needles

Recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I am taking Metformin. My nurse wants me to go for a check-up where I am sure she is going to ask me to have regular blood tests and to do regular self testing with a mete and test strips. I am a first class wimp who is scared of needles. Is there any other way of controlling my levels without sticking any kind of pins in myself? Urine test, saliva?

There are urine tests, but these are not accurate at anything like "normal" glucose levels as glucose only dumps into the urine at levels<10mmol/l.
So, no you may just have to learn to cope with the lancets.(modern ones are relatively painless!)

Unfortunately not, however the lancing devices can be adjusted so that the finger prick is less painful, start on the lowest setting first until you draw enough blood for the test strip to function.

I think you meant at levels > 10 mmol/l :)
