As a type 2 diabetic on metformin should I keep a food diary and test levels? My gp says it's a waste of time on metformin.
Also, anyone know of a decent sweetener?
Thanks

Yes you should, if you don't you won't know what food raise your blood sugar I'll tag @daisy1 to give you more info :)

@Debbie gott,
Have you looked at the replies in the other thread you started?
Some useful information has been left there by @daisy1

A diary, definitely! The diary is for recording everything! The reason is to show your doctor/dsn how you are controlling your diabetes
Testing, oh yes! As the above poster said, how will you know what foods spike you.
Also you can see trends in what you are eating to what happens when your insulin resistance gets better.
Sweetener ! Sorry, one question that I know nothing!

We have a testing sticky thread in the RH forum.
Good information.

Hi @Debbie gott and welcome to the forum! I think you need to try different sweeteners and find one that suits your taste. I tried Canderel, Truvia, xylitol, stevia and a couple of others. I now use Candarel and Truvia in tea and coffee, and xylitol for baking.
But you shouldn't use xylitol if you have a dog as it is highly toxic for them.
