Testing

I have been T2 for two years. When I go to the Diabetic foot clinic, Retinopathy testing, Diet clinic, etc I am always asked how often do I test my bloods or how do my blood tests vary. However when I asked my doctor he said T2 do not do blood tests and T2 could not have test strips on prescription. I have purchased a monitor and strips and find my results are erratic. Who is right GP or clinics?

I've been T2 for eight years this month and, right from day one, have had Accu-Chek test strips available on prescription. You do need to get your BS under control and testing it a few times a week is a good way of monitoring it.

I'd challenge your doctor on his opinion. You might also want to look at http://www.diabetes.org.uk/How_we_help/ ... st-strips/

Yes you do need to test, in the end I gave up testing following doctors continual advice and only tested when feeling not right. :( This has lead to my BS building up slowly over time and in Jan this year when I noticed things were not right it was to late in the day as my BS was in the 20's.

I am now working and achieving good progress in controlling my BS and are testing 4 + times a day to find which foods are causing problems and have now had my meds changed 3 times to get control. Through testing I have found that foods made with white floor really send my BS high and as of last night corn flakes are also of the menu. I normally eat wholemeal bread, and my Sunday treat was a nice crusty white bread cob, not any longer though.

I am also testing more due to DVLA guidelines as I am now on meds that can cause hypo's.
