Hi,
As some of you may know, I was diagnosed back in December, but have had no access to any treatment at all until two weeks ago. I had been getting very worried that no matter what I did, my BG levels never got below 10, and were frequently 14+.
Now I have had two weeks of extensive consultations and testing with my GP back home (who is also the regional Diabetic specialist), as well as the diabetic clinic at the local hospital and the diabetic nurse at the home practice. This has resulted in me being prescribed a whole load of medication, which I have taken back here to Africa and will be using for the next 3 or 4 months until I can return to the UK again and repeat the tests. Before I had the tests I was taking 20mg Omeprazole for reflux, and 4 mg perindopril for high BP. Now, as well as those (including doubling my perindopril dose) I am taking statins, metformin and testosterone gel. I must admit I feel ten times better already, but I am still concerned that my blood is hovering around 9 and never seems to go any lower. Could this be affected by the testosterone? Or is it something to do with the fact that I only started the new treatment regime 3 days ago?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
Colin.

Testosterone deficiency can indeed contribute to diabetes. It will take some time for you to respond to the treatment so don't get too disheartened. Your energy levels should come up too, so if you have been feeling quite fatigued you can look forward to this improving too.

Thanks for that Katharine, it is the sort of response I was hoping to hear.

Got my lowest reading ever last night (since I started testing over 3 months ago). It was 6.7, so hopefully that means the medication is beginning to have an effect. Was back up at 9 this morning though, and I guess this may have been as a result of an unusual craving for something sweet towards bedtime last night. I ended up 'needing' to have a sandwich covered in marmalade. Could this craving have been because I had such a low BG level (well, low by comparison with my usual numbers), as it is not something I have felt before? Does anyone know of anything not so sugary that could satisfy me before bedtime in the future, should the cravings persist? I was thinking milk may do the trick, but not sure if that is acceptable or not.

Colin.
