Hello all I've been having issues since having my son 20 months ago. Bad back nerve issues in my hands and feet sensitive to gluten the list goes on.
My big toes started to become tingly in the last few weeks so I requested a diabetes blood test again. And I've had a text from gp after they've closed saying I need to ring for another blood test so I'm now worried it's type 2. I had a diabetes test in March which was normal but my health both physically and mentally has been poor in the last 2 years.

I'm just not in the best head space to deal with anything more. Any advice welcome
 
Hi @Bluegrey2019 ,

I'm sorry to hear your going through the mill right now.
It would be prudent to ring first thing tomorrow & ask for details on your current test if only to belay any speculation?
Then book the next appointment at the earliest opportunity.

Yes thank you. I only had the test this morning does the hba1c normally come back that quickly. Is it the norm to have a second test? I'm assuming It is if my numbers were into prediabetic or higher levels.

Hi,

Oddly, not in my experience.. I normally have the test done with a nurse then another appointment with the a specialist or GP a couple of weeks later?
 
Oh gosh ita the waiting that is going to leave me unsettled tonight. Just a general question can stress effect blood sugar levels?

Forgot to ask @Bluegrey2019 , did you only initially book a test appointment?
They may only be a review once the results come back.?
Did the text specifically suggest the next appointment was for a blood test?
I appreciate the can be a little cryptic..
 
It could also just be that the test that was done had an issue (wrong colour tube, wrong paperwork, wrong storage etc) so they need to redo just because it was invalid, or anything like that, you don't know until you talk to your docs
 
Yes the text says to review my results online unfortunately I'm not registered for that and to contact surgery for another blood test.
I'm not officially diagnosed yet I asked for the blood test due to cold numb tingly big toes so I don't know what's happening yet

Yes very true I'm just very anxious by nature and have a tendency to worry about everything.
 
When I was diagnosed I was asked to do a second test before they confirmed it. It seems if you level is very high they go straight to treatment but otherwise they are supposed to do a second test in case the first was slightly out.

Yes stress can affect blood glucose levels but the HbA1c indicates what level your blood glucose has been on average over about the last 3 months so a few days will not make much difference.
As others have said contact the doctors tomorrow ... time to get HbA1c results can vary quite a bit ... have had less than 2 hours from a hospital and up to a couple of weeks from a GP and inbetween
 
I mean your experience might be different from mine. But I had the same after a blood test. A text from the gp surgery saying to book another test in 2 months. I rang and asked why. So the receptionist read out the doctors note which said likely diabetic and another test needed to confirm. I pushed for the actual numbers so I got my hba1c (48) and registered there and then to get my results on the nhs app next time. I’ve got my next test next week!

Like I said, it might be something totally innocent for you though. I’d ring them and ask for details. I’ll have my fingers crossed for you! If it not what you were hoping for there are lots of people here with great advice and friendly words - don’t think the worst there are lots of things you can take control of. First - ring them!

If an HbA1c test is just over the 48 a further test is normally done within 2 or 3 weeks, no later. On diagnosis, my HbA1c was 53 so I had a second test to confirm this. It was 52, so no difference really.

Do ask to register for test results on-line. They are normally there within 1 or 2 days depending on the time your sample was sent off to the lab. Mine are always on-line within 24 hours unless a weekend is involved.
 
Hi. HBA1C tests normally take around 2-3 days if taken at the hospital and similarly if a phlebotomist does them at the surgery. Do ask to be given access to your surgery's online system including test results. This is almost essential when diabetic to avoid timewasting trying to find out what they are.
