I have been reading posts on this forum regularly as I am not getting much help from the NHS. Recently I saw a consultant who said I am LADA (my fourth diagnosis in 14 months). She recommended basal insulin (levenmir) once daily in a specified range - but told me to work out exactly how much I need. I asked for an open appointment to the specialist diabetes nurse to help with questions about adjustments for exercise (I have hypos at least 4 times a week, and always when I try to run). That appointment has come through... for September! My own GP lacks diabetes specialist knowledge and says things which contradict the consultants or my own experience. GRRRR!

Without this forum I would feel lost. Even reading posts where some of us feel bad has helped. Knowing I am not alone, that others understand why this is difficult, really helps. The GP told me not to worry about "spikes" if they aren't everyday or above 15. Thanks to this forum I am finding ways to prevent those, and to worry about them as they do matter.

My biggest thanks today are to the members posting about useful apps. I have downloaded mySugr and I am finding it excpetionally useful in understanding the pattern of my readings. It has given me quality data, visually, so that trends are really obvious and I am using this to change my carb intake to address the highs and lows. Utterly brilliant app - why doesn't the NHS tell you about these!

Keep posting guys - you never know who may find your information helpful

You keep posting, too, @annieblade . Keep us updated on how you are doing. Folks will learn from you, as well.

Great here isn’t it! I’m another MySugr app lover!

This is the only place you can get a straight answer to all the questions spinning round in your head

I have been a Type l for nearly 62 years. In my late teens/early twenties I played netball for the county at half time when everyone was having a slice of orange I was having a can of coke to keep my blood sugar levels up. I am 65 now and find that if I iron for 2 hours I have to have a snack otherwise I am hypo.
I have a great consultant and diabetic nurse they both understand that every diabetic is different for eg my blood sugar was 1.8 this morning when I got up. I had my normal breakfast plus some extra but I had a quite morning and have not driven all day.
All new diabetics have to get used to their own bodies and how they react to different circumstances
