Oops don't know what happened there.
As I said, I was diagnosed in April, type 2 , diet controlled. I have got my HbA1c down from 12.6 to 6.4 with lifestyle changes.
My main problem is that around 2 hours after lunch and dinner I feel awful. My symptoms are
Feeling anxious
Sweaty , like a hot flush
Eyes feel as if they may pop out
Shakey
Can be short tempered and cant concentrate.
Can someone explain whats happening or am I imagining it?
Thank you

You need to test your blood sugars before a meal and two hours after to see what's happening with the food you eat
Good luck

I don't have a glucometer because Im diet controlled. I think I'm going to go and buy one today. At least then I'll know.

Don't buy one yet. You don't med to as Glucomen,Bayer and Abbot will send you a free one.

Go onto the various home pages of these 3 firms and somewhere there will be a 'Request a meter'. Fill in the form and usually you will get a meter in 1 or 2 days.

Or you could wait and see if your diabetic nurse offers you one.

It's a postcode lottery really. I was lucky an had a meter offered although I got one from Glucomen ( I recommend that one as the lancet is easy to use and it works well.)

In the box will be instructions to your medical practice on paper of your various strips and lancets and you will be (hopefully) prescribed what you need.

Let us know how you get on.

I couldn't do without my meter as it's the only was I know which foods make my blood sugars spike....

I feel really self conscious about it to be honest , crazy I know . I am a nurse ( not had direct patient care for 9 years though) .
I cared for patients with diabetes but it was ages ago and totally different when its yourself , I am questioning myself with everything.
My husband ( lovely supportive guy usually) is saying its my own fault because I knew last year that I had to change my lifestyle and didn't . I know he's right but it means that I can't talk to him about it and I don't want to test in front of him. I know I was crazy not changing sooner but I think I was in denial. Now I am fighting back.

us blokes are weird, he sounds angry with the diabetes not you, and as hes a bloke he will have trouble directing it, this is temporary, remember hes ONLY a man :) this is shocking but soon you will be glad to have the extra experience and the bonus of knowing what the nurses are really thinking when they talk to you lol

Well Ive tested throughout the day and watched what I was eating , levels were fine . Then tried some apple pie to see the effect on my sugsrs (yes I know its a daft thing to do ) and felt awful . Reading was 10.8mmols so now I know that when I feel awful my sugar levels are raised , not lower like I thought , thats something to fix. Its not worth feeling like that.

Ive managed to keep my BMs under 7 most of the time , odd blip but mainly under control. I know what raises them. Had a surprise today when I had a bowl of special K , I felt awful ? Blood sugar 12.6 on glucometer. Not have that again .
