The Debate and DUK's Response

Just pointing out to the OP that it's 'Southport GP' and not 'Stockport GP' so there's no confusion.

I couldn't possibly say Brunneria

I see a familiar trick in the anti woman's list: "Healthy carbohydrate foods such as wholegrains, pulses, fruit, vegetables, milk and yoghurt". They always manage to slip vegetables in, don't they? To me, saying that LCHF excludes vegetables is as misleading as saying that HCLF encourages you to stuff yourself with cakes and sweeties.

As reported by Southport GP it was encouraging that the debate was won with a large majority in favour of stopping promoting carbs to people with diabetes.

I wonder if Diabetes UK will ever reconsider their position on starchy carbs the message is still the same, "one third of your diet should be made up of these foods, so try to include them in every meal."

Nhs choices now have slightly changed their attitude towards carbs... I get emails from them every month and their diet advice is now listing debates and the investigations towards, low fat, low carb etc..

The only carbohydrate which milk and yoghurt contain is lactose a "sugar". Which is rather at odds with the usual carbohydrate advice.

To me, saying that LCHF excludes vegetables is as misleading as saying that HCLF encourages you to stuff yourself with cakes and sweeties.

Though saying it encourages people to stuff themselves with bread might not be that far of the mark.

And that's probably what got me where I am today ...

I will be mentioning the debate & the doctor's research in my update on low carb at the Hounslow cardio/diabetes group. The other speaker is one of the Ealing Hospital consultants. I met her at the Southall support group.

Search Hounslow & Southall for more info.

What would be the correct forum to rebut the "anti" dietician's article, claim by claim? And the DUK recommendations? Would DUK publish a letter?

For example, the references (3,4,5) DUK cites as disproving LCHF benefits in type 1s appear to be using lipid profiles as their endpoints rather than HBa1c, let alone actual morbidity. In other words, probably just recycling the disproven lipid hypotheses, like her opening paragraph recycles the disproven "heart health" hypothesis.
