The Dukan Diet

Hi - I am a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic still in hospital. What is the role of the Dukan diet in the DM life? Hopefully going home this evening.

Well I tried the Dukan diet while I was still pre-diabetic. I lost weight for the first time in years. However there wasn't enough fibre for me and the results were um... pretty upsetting. I personally would never try it again. It is good in that it reduces the carbs in your diet and therefore will help with reducing your blood glucose readings.

I follow LCHF (low carb higher fat) now which is also a reduction in carbs but allows for more fresh veg so I find it gentler and easier to follow than the Dukan Diet. If you do choose Dukan remember to drink plenty of water and have something like psyllium husks to prevent constipation.

Oh and welcome to the forum :)

Thanks - that's helpful. I am still in hospital (12 days) having been admitted Christmas Day and having emergency amputation. I have ordered some LCHF recipe books and am looking forward to trying them out.

Thanks - the hospital diet has lots of carbs, I will chase up those suggestions. I am pleased to have had the amputation straight away since it would never have healed otherwise since the bone was involved.. I am a weak and they think I have a degree of diabetic amyopathy. It will be good to go home later.
