Erm I posted this in the LCHF diet forum then noticed it had disappeared!
Why thank you kind sir, and pleased to meet you!
So weren't informed of the 'move'oh dear.
I'm confused!!
When I was diagnosed with type 1 eight years ago I was told to eat carbs with every meal. I have done so religiously ever since.
I cook a lot of our food from scratch and we eat normal family foods such as cottage pie, spaghetti bolognaise fajitas to name a couple of examples. I do also enjoy the odd takeaway and Saturday nights are usually a treat night in terms of food.
Since reading a lot on this forum I have noticed low carbing a lot. Are the things that I have been eating wrong? How much carb would you recommend on a daily basis? Thanks
HI i just thought i would say well done for what you have achievedMy mother was T2 diabetic and had to take insulin. She ate what she had been told was a healthy diet for a diabetic and, seeing what she was advised to eat, I followed the same regime and ate lots of fruit, pasta, rice, low fat foods, potatoes etc etc but never seem to lose any weight and still got diabetes! Since joining the forum in August last year and eating less carbs and full fat I have lost weight, feel healthier and my BS is in the non-diabtic range most of the time. How can the food programme justify telling people to stick to carbs when the evidence that low carb works is out there?
That's an impressive achievement - well done!HI i just thought i would say well done for what you have achievedI started the lchf diet 8 weeks ago i was on 22 units of basul insulin and tablets as from Thursday i no longer need the insulin so just take tablets so its working for me
If you are not overweight then you may have the right diet, but excess carbs and insulin to match can easily lead to weight gain. Aslo, the more insulin you take the higher the blood sugar swings if you don't carb count quite right and hence the risk of hypos increases.I'm confused!!

It's what suits you and what you can live with. Not all Type 1s low carb by any means. I don't, and my HbA1c is great and I'm not, and have never been overweight. I eat between 150 to 180g of carbs per day.
Each body has different needs and a different amount of carbs they can tolerate. I count carbs, do plenty of blood tests, and eat moderate amounts of potatoes, cereal, pasta, etc. For me, what's most important is keeping my blood sugar within range.
(I use an insulin pump, my last HbA1C was 28 (4.7), and my BMI is around 19.5)
