I have been having trouble with the generic Metformin SR i have been prescribed. The previous prescription was fine, a different generic, but the present one is horrid.

I have been having a plastic-y/salty taste in my mouth all the time, and the tablets are HUGE.

So I spoke to my tame pharmacist today about it. He told me that not all generics are the same, and has made a note to make sure I get the first generic one I tried, which suited me well and had small tablet

I had no idea pharmacists had so much control over my prescription, and wanted to share the info.

Thanks for the info Lucy, interesting. Once or twice in the past I have been given a different Metformin, one set of tablets smelt disgusting so it was really hard to put them in my mouth. Since then though I have mostly been given Glucophage which is ok.

Our local pharmacy, which is just over half a mile from our house, provides an excellent service.
The one I likemost is keeping 6 monthe prescriptions for me and dispensing them one month at a time.
I expect most pharmacies do this, but it's so useful

Hi I had exactly the same problem some time back, they gave me a bio equivalent for glucophage, and i found my bm's on average were about 1mmol higher. The pharmasist explained that if my prescription states metformin they can supply an equivalent product, normally the cheapest. I was told to get my doctor to change the presciption to read glucophage. this makes it product specific and they have to supply exactly as specified. I don't have to worry about which type of metformin or evuivalent i'm getting any more.
