Good morning, everyone. For the last couple of days I have felt rather blue, very calm and quiet but not my usual self. I have not deviated with regard to carb load and have seen no significant rise in bg. And yet yesterday and this morning I have been feeling hungry (as I did at the begining of LCHF). Perhaps I am 'fixing for something' as my Mum used to say as two of the family have had the 'man flu' over the past few days. But it is the hunger which has me perplexed, I am not craving carbs at all either. Anyone felt like this before?

Some days are just worse than usual. Unfortunately being diabetic has not come with the loss of my sweet tooth! I crave chocolate on occasion and having tried 90% chocolate still doesn’t cut it. What I wouldn’t do for a bar of galaxy!

I have started feeling far more hungry over the last week or so. I am now about 8lbs from a healthy weight range and the nearer I get to that weight the hungrier I have become. When I started I was obese and once past the first really difficult week did not feel hungry at all.
I wonder if its because I am nearer where I should be for best health? So should not continue to eat too few calories to maintain this weight?
And I do not have carb cravings, but am just hungry. Although, I have been obese and addicted to carbs for years, so have had difficulty in distinguishing between hunger and craving for a very long time.

I hope you are not coming down with something. It is the time of year for all.sorts of bugs.x

Have either of you had the flu jab recently? My poor old mum has it every year ad always gets ill.. as she lives in sheltered accommodation they are all expected to have it so she goes along as always then spends the next month feeling down..

Yes. I am taking nuts with me when I go out again.

I am an old timer at low carbing, and have reported dozens of times on the forum quite truthfully that I am never hungry. I never have been, in over 3 years, even after starting to skip breakfasts. Then ........ in mid September my levels suddenly notched downwards and all my averages dropped very noticeably without any change in routine ....... AND I started to feel hunger! I was getting hungry a good while before the next meal was due. I could only put it down to having lower levels. It lasted a week or two and has now disappeared. I assume because my body has got used to lower levels. I must add, I didn't give in to it. I just filled up with water.

I havn't had the flu jab, I'm not even sure exactly why I need it.

That is good to hear, Bluetit. If this is transient I will carry on as normal. I havn't given in and I am not even going to make the low carb salami crisps that I planned for over the weekend because I do not want to get into the habit of snacking again.

Thanks everyone.

@Guzzler if you feel tempted to eat, perhaps a cup of tea with milk, or a coffee with cream would suffice?

As you know, I started having creamed coffee a few days ago and yes it is what has helped me to resist diving into carb heavy foods. I just wish that someone would come up with a decaf that mirrored the flavour of ordinary coffee. Decaf has a pretty bland taste but I am drinking fewer cups of tea as a result.

I changed to decaf coffee a long time ago, probably 20 years, due to blaming headaches on coffee, which I always drank black. I just got used to it, and now when I'm out in a cafe or wherever and I ask for black decaf, I am never sure whether it is or isn't. I only normally have one a day with cream, the rest is tea. Strange thing is, in cafes I still have it black.

Yes, we are funny folk. I still consider creamed coffee to be a great 'treat'.

Oh so do I! In times past, when I was young and still living with my parents, mum always made a coffee with 100% boiled milk, no water. It was delicious, and definitely a go-to comfort food. We just had to be careful the milk didn't boil over as it was a devil of a job to clean it all up! Nowadays, coffee with double cream is my comfort food, and a real treat.

Hi. If you are hungry and not for carbs then be glad for your body signalling to you that it needs something. Maybe you have done more exercise or are fighting infection or some other stressor. Unless its down to a bg rolercoaster and it sounds as though it is not, then eat and see if it makes you feel better?

I think the cooler weather may have something to do with it.
I've been thinking how chilly it is and thinking about warming and comforting soups and stews quite a bit lately.

Aye, I have always said that lower light levels affect my moods and here in Yorkshire we have had a few odd days with unseasonably low levels of light. Temperature hasn't yet been a thing I've particularly noted but I will in future.

Update.

After viewing a Fung vid on IF posted, I think by Bulkbiker, I was struck by an audiece member asking at the Q&A why Dr. Fung chose to have his 'break fast' in the evening instead of earlier in the day. Dr. Fung said it was a personal choice because he preffered to sit down with his whole family at the table in the evening rather than the rushed, chaotic mornings.
This led me to try swapping my larger evening meal to the smaller lunchtime meal. Of course I cannot fast but thought it would be interesting to try and see what would happen. This, at the same time as adding a few creamed coffees to my day has so far seen a drastic lowering of hunger signals.

In short, I would like to thank BB and Blue and all of you who made suggestions. Fingers crossed that my now happier status continues.

So am I understanding you now have a larger lunch and smaller dinner? Cream and I don’t get along but broth with butter or ghee do. Working on quitting coffee so it’s a nice alternative and it’s amazing how it squelches hunger.

Yes, the swapping meals is helping. And I have been following the broth thread and have decided to try it. Every little helps. Thanks lass.

I will make my turkey broth at thanksgiving. For now I have found a good organic, no junk store bought. Then a dollop of butter or ghee. Actually preferring the ghee as it’s a bit richer. And generally I don’t like ghee. It’s just something different if you don’t want coffee. And I don’t like tea nor imagine butter in it haha
